    Hi,

For now I have to tether off my mobile phone and HAVE to use hotspot shield (tethering is not really part of the phone package) otherwise it (the phones service provider blocks many sites)...I like hostmans but it seems HS prevents it use, does anyone know how I can make it work given this?

I use and like HostsMan, but I see there is now a new one available called BlueLifeHosts editor.
    Anyone tried this ?

YES, use HM for years on XP.
I just started using Win7-64bit, but haven't yet gotten into figuring out the DNS service and whatever else of 64-bit is needed no to break the box, but intend to do so.

Tips on configuring your DNS to suit using a Hosts file are at the MVPS Hosts page.

yes, the thing is there are many more hosts files than just MVPS and HostsMan lets you download all of them automatically and combines into one file for you.

i guess this is a response to me (?)

in addition to MVPS i use hpHosts, Peter Lowe's adservers, Cameleon, Malware Domain List, Someonewhocares.org list, SecureMecca, MalwareDomains.com, Zeus Tracker, SpyEye tracker, Palevo tracker, and as far as i can tell they are all reputable. only rarely do i have to add sites to the exclusion list so for now there is no problem as far as blocking too many legit sites.

The notes on Merging Hosts files was a note to anyone than runs multiple merged files. This is something that I personally do not do. That is not to say that it doesn't work.
Some machine slowness can occur with too many overlapping files.

Setting your DNS Client to off and flushing it on a frequent basis minimises machine slowness from large Hosts files.

FWIW - The web page server (different IP address) also times out and coincidentally neither forum nor web page IP addresses respond to pings.

It is certainly common for physical server moves to take place beginning on a Friday evening. Of course the announcement, if made, would have been made on the same servers. Catch-22?
