    It looks like in the case of slickdeals.net, we did have it blocked for about two days last week. Our antimalware components try to tie together the originating URL to downloaded files and then add originating URLs into the SafeOnline blacklist so the antimalware components would have likely stopped the infection itself, but if not, SafeOnline would block the user from going there in the first place :) It isn't an exact science, but it allows us to block many drive-by download websites and helps bridge the gap if a normally legitimate domain is serving malicious content.

    Also it would only block a nasty that it is, or becomes aware of.

    So if any of the above are not in place, then it/they would not be blocked. But goes for other AV etc too. The exception being, ones with very good Heuristics, are more capable of intercepting unknowns, as i can testify with Avira for eg.
