My Internet explorer has been taken over by a homepage.com. When I reset my home page it will go to msn the first time but if I click out and go again it goes to homepage.com. I ran both spyware begone and spybot on this system. Now my system does the same above only it goes to this link now:

    http://homepage.com@www.e-finder.cc/hp/

which comes up as this page cannot be displayed. When I ran spybot it brings up two spyware: DSO Exploit and Comman hijacker. I check them and it says it has fixed all seven problems but they reappear.

I downloaded and ran HijackThis and here is my log from this program.

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.97.7

    Hello toniaharper,

I would like you to download CWShredder Click on update, then close all browsers, and then click on Fix, not scan.

Next, run HJT with all browsers closed and check these items and then on Fix:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {834261E1-DD97-4177-853B-C907E5D5BD6E} - C:\WINDOWS\dpe.dll

Reboot the computer and post a new HJT log here.

I did as you instructed. Although I had already ran CWShredder - I downloaded and ran it again. I removed the suggested files and shut down.

    Hello,

I believe this is a virus.

    Turn off your system restore:
Disabling the System Restore Utility (Windows XP Users)

    1. Right click the My Computer icon on the Desktop and click on Properties.
    2. Click on the System Restore tab.
    3. Put a check mark next to 'Turn off System Restore on All Drives'.

Go here and do an online virus scan:

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

there is a little box off to the side just before you scan that says Autofix if I remember right. Check that box. Let me know the results.

Make sure you write down what it finds and what the files are.

This is my bosses machine and he came in and told me Nortons said he had a virus. Nortons detected this virus on his machine:
    Trojan.ByteVerify

It would not automatically remove it so I followed the directions on symantecs sight to manually remove it. By disabling system restore, updating virus definition, restart in safe mode and rerun Nortons. This detected and deleted it. So I believe the virus is gone but I didn't realize this was part of the virus.

Do I still need to go and run the other scan you recommended. Nortons runs a clean scan now.

After doing what you said to - my homepage has remained as I set it. It is no longer changing everytime. So I believe we have solved the problem unless you see something else that we might need to check on - let me know.

    Thank you,
    Tonia
