    I like how Acronis can backup TO a share, but I'm wondering if it's possible for the Home edition to backup FROM a share? In other words, backing up from and restoring to a network drive.

    Hello,

    same here. I use ATI 2009 on Vista SP1 and want to backup my network shares provided by my Synology DS-107+. Both known methods, UNC path by browsing network environment or mapping the shares doesn't work for me. When starting backup job, I am getting an error that the files are unreadable and the image may be corrupt. If I ignore that message, ATI goes on for a while, and then creates an image file of only a few KB size, which seems to contain an correct image - but when I browse this image, the files are opened as folders... Is there a way to make a backup of shares with ATI?

    NickA,

    Are you asking whether you can image a partition on a remote computer and have that image written to the remote computer or written to your local computer?

    I need to know if I can point ATI to a network share, have it backup whatever I want on that share, and be able to restore to that share.
    Basically, does ATI have the ability to read/write to a share for backup/restore purposes.

    NickA, I am having the same problem trying to backup a network folder on a Terastation.

    Check and see if this occurs with yours. Create a task and select a network shared folder (or file). Finish creating the task with whatever options you wish.

    Immediately after creating the task, Edit the task and see if the item you checked is still checked. You will probably notice a checkbox that is gray above the share ... in mine I believe it was the My Computer checkbox was gray but nothing was actually checked.

    Hopefully Acronis Support will verify that this is either a malfunction or by design soon.

    Ok, I downloaded the latest version. Build 9646.

    It actually pops a warning up that a network folder has been selected but no credentials have been supplied ... which is what I thought was going on.

    However, I tried everything I know to setup users in the Terastation and then supply the same credentials in Acronis to no avail.

    Something that is really whacky ... I can backup to the same folder on the Terastation but I can't get Acronis to see that same folder to back it up to my PC.

    Will comment later if I discover anything else.

    Hello all,

    Thank you for using Acronis True Image

    Acronis True Image Home 2009 allows to backup shared folders. Every case of the program malfunction needs a separate attention. Please submit a request to Acronis Customer Service Department here

    Please provide us with a log file of the failed operation (if there is any):

    - Launch the program;
    - Tasks and logs, Log;
    - Choose the log entry which contains errors and make right-click on it;
    - Select save option and specify the desired location for the log file to save to;

    Also please let us know the exact model of the network drive.

    Thank you.

    Same here, and I am using a DS108J, Vista Ultimate SP1, and True Image 2009 build 9646.

    Part of the log contains the following:

    The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process (0xFFF0)

    I purchased this drive hoping that I would be able to use Acronis to back up various folders on it. Previously the drive had been installed in an EagleTech drive and I got similar errors. And also similar errors using a Western Digital Netcenter. I would really like to get this to work with the Synology DS108J though.
