I'm running Adaware and AVG antivirus. My problem is whenever I try to go to themayhem.com my computer freezes and my monitor goes blank. Keyboard locks up so I have to restart the machine. When the system comes back up and I run AVG it ALWAYS finds a Trojan in one of my Temp. Internet Files folders. It could be SecThought.E or Dropper something or other. Occasionally when I try to open Windows Media Player the system freezes and the monitor goes blank as well. I've tried the ZoneAlarm firewall and now have Kerio installed. After I run Adaware and AVG the system seems clean but if I go back to themayhem.com it goes down again.

    Hello snub,

    Start with this:

    1. Open My Computer
    2. Right click on your hard drive that you wish to clean (C drive, for example)
    3. In the context menu that opens, select properties
    4. Under the general tab you should select Disk Cleanup
    5. Windows will scan your drive which will take a few seconds/minutes
    6. A box will display the various files you can remove. Here are some safe examples:

    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin
    Temporary Files

    7. Click OK and windows will comply.

    Next,

Open Internet Explorer. Then click on TOOLS in the top toolbar. Click on "Internet Options..." from the drop-down menu.
A new smaller window will display. Under the "General" tab, in the middle, are 3 buttons.
Click the Delete Cookies button - then a small warning box pops up. Click OK.
Click the Delete Files button - a small warning box pops us. Check the box for "Delete all offline content" and click OK.
Then on the same General tab, click Clear History, then click OK.

    Next,

Go to this free online virus scan and run the scan on your computer. Let me know the results and what files are infected if any.

    http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

Next, download Spybot S&D Check for Updates first, download ALL Updates and Do a Scan. When finished, make sure ALL RED items have been ticked, and click the "Fix Selected Problems" Button.

    Reboot the computer.

Run Hijackthis again and post a fresh log here.

    Taz,
Thanks for the reply, I was afraid that I had gotten looked over. Did the disk clean up, removed the cookies and cleared out history. I usually do the cookie and history then regularly as well as deleting the temp. internet files. I down loaded SpyBot and ran it, it found two things and I cleaned them up. Here is my new HiJackThis log.

AVG ran clean last night, but if I go to themayhem.com site I am afraid that I'll have the same problem, but here it is.

I went to themayhem.com site and ran into problems. A couple of pop ups and something started my Windows Media Player, Kerio caught it and I denied it. I am running the Yahoo Companion pop up blocker but for some reason it didn't catch the two pop ups that came up. I ran HiJack This again and here is my log. Not sure if it will help but here it is.

    Taz,
Ran HiJack This and fixed the line you specified. SpyBot caught it and said it was a necessary registry entry but I went ahead with the fix anyway. Here is my new log:

Thanks for the help, hopefully I can get around my issue. What are these three processes: RPCSS, WMIEXE and MPREXE?

    Hello,

Here are what those processes are:

    Company: Microsoft Corp.
    System Process: Yes

wmiexe.exe - Process Name: Microsoft’s Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI).
Description: Application that gives a standard method of accessing system information, performance information, event monitors, and application monitors. The application works as a transparent task.
    Company: Microsoft Corp.
    System Process: Yes
    Security Risk ( Virus/Trojan/Worm/Adware/Spyware ): No

MPREXE - Process Name: Windows Routing Process
Description: Application that allows Windows 95, 98, or ME to have more than one network client, protocol, or adapter. The software routes network requests between the different adapters and clients.
    Company: Microsoft Corp.

Whenever I go to themayhem.com I run into problems. After visiting there yesterday my AVG found a different trojan "Downloader.Small.7.AV". While there something also tried to start my Windows Media Player. It's as if it attacks my Kerio because when I go there it shuts down the pop up blocker within Kerio. You're right the log looks clean but there is some weakness in my system somewhere that allows penetration from that site. Once the trojan gets on my system its only obvious action is when I try to access that site or when I try to start my Windows Media Player. The file that AVG always finds is "install035[1].exe" and it seems that file is allowed to be downloaded by several different trojans. I've had Dropper.Siboco.A, SecThought.E and the one found yesterday Downloader.Small.7.AV. I did not run HiJackThis before this post so I don't have anything for you to look at, sorry.
