I am having problems with easysearch hijacking my browser. I looked at other posts to see if my HJT logs were similar, but there's something different about mine that I can't figure out. I would appreciate much needed help.

I have followed the three steps listed. I installed and ran Spybot and installed and ran HijackThis as well as CWShredder.

    Here is my HijackThis log:

    Hello patrick,

    welcome to Wilders,

First of all, you are running hijackthis out of a temporary directory. Can you please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there. The reason for this is that Hijackthis cannot create backup files whilst it is being run from a temporary folder

    When you have done this, then make sure all browsers and windows are closed except for hijackthis and put a check against the following and click 'fix checked';

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
    O4 - Startup: PowerReg SchedulerV2.exe

Reboot and then run CWShredder again ( I hope you are doing "FIX" and not "SCAN" ). Do keep in mind that you have only the CWShredder's window opened and nothing else.

Reboot and paste a fresh log.

    Regards

I rebooted after I moved HJT and CWShredder into their own folders. I ran CWShredder and HJT and removed the checked items that you suggested. I rebooted again and enjoysearch is back. What should I do now?

Ok, sorry, I think I may have rebooted at the wrong time, so I started over. Here is my current situation:

Installed and ran Spybot and fixed those problems.
Installed and ran HijackThis and pasted the log for you.
I then fixed the selected problems that you told me to fix.
I then ran CWShredder and rebooted.
Now, as soon as my pc was rebooted, I ran HJT and got this log:

    Hi Patrick,

Please bring up the Task Manager by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del keys and end the running process on the file jushed32.exe.

Then could you navigate to the C:\WINDOWS folder and zip up a copy of the jushed32.exe file, then email it to This Email Address for analysis. We would very much like to have a copy of that file as it is the one putting back the enjoysearch hijacker. Thank you kindly.

After you have emailed us a zipped copy of the above file, reboot your computer into Safe Mode and delete the jushed32.exe file.

While still in safe mode, and with ALL browsers closed, rescan with HijackThis and place a check beside the following, and click *Fixed checked:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchURL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = http://www.enjoysearch.info
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.enjoysearch.info/search.html

While still in safe mode, run CWShredder again and follow the instructions you will recieve from the program.

Reboot your computer normally and post a new HijackThis log here to be checked.

    Regards,

    snap

    Snap,
Thank you for helping me. I brought up the Task Manager, but was confronted with a problem. I don't have any tabs on the top of the Task Manager, so all I'm allowed to look at is the tasks that are open. In this case, one IE window. I couldn't tab over into the running processes. So, I skipped that step and zipped/emailed you the jushed32.exe. After, I rebooted in safe mode, deleted jushed32.exe, ran HJT and fixed selected problems. I then ran CWShredder. Both programs were the only windows open at their respective times. I then rebooted in safe mode again and ran HJT to be sure. Everything was gone. I then rebooted normally and my homepage FINALLY returned to its normal homepage. Thus, here is my new HJT log:

So I hope this log is clean now and I appreciate very much everyone's help. Please let me know if I'm finally done. And if anyone has an idea about what's wrong with my Task Manager or where I can find out more about it, that would be great, too!

    Patrick

Taskmanager is in Tiny footprint mode:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;193050

The method you used should be sufficient to get rid of the Hijack and your log looks good.

    Regards,

    Pieter

Unfortunately the Antivirus on your ISP bell south stripped the jushed32 file out even though it was zipped so we didn't get it

doesn't matter, we know what it doews, but it would have been nice to actually get hold of a copy to pull apart

Found 6 victims and asked for copies. The sooner Merijn can update CWShredder for it, the better. :)

Thanks, everyone, for your help! Sorry about that file getting deleted...anything I can do to get around that or should I not try to fool with it?

Thanks to everyone for posting this thread. The "enjoysearch" hijacker is one of the most persistent I've come across. Killing the jushed32.exe process was the cure. I guess everyone already knows about the jushed32 file and the regdll.sys file that loads at startup. Even after shredding those, the damn thing kept coming back. Sad - I wonder if they really think this makes anyone want to use their search engine? Thanks again.
