hijacked homepage in Window ME

New to the forums so apologies if this is a repeat post. Trying to help my girlfriend whose computer has the "System error #384" hijack. All posts I've seen refer to downloading programs to help. My problem is that I can't download anything because I can't access the internet through the hijacked IE browser.

Also, on other OSs I can view processes and kill things to at least temporarily give me relief but Windows ME does not show processes on the task manager. If I could access webpages I could probably handle it from there.
