I have a rather old Dell PC that is running slower than I would expect it to with a Cable modem like I have. I followed the three steps and downloaded Ad-ware, did the whole Spybot S&D thing and was trying to do the Hijack This process but ran into an error. When I unzipped the file and tried to run the exe file I received this message; "A required .DLL file, MSVBVM60.DLL was not found". Did I do something wrong? What are my options?

    Hi 1996Z15,

    Welcome at Wilders. :)

    Download and run:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe

    HijackThis should work after that.

    Regards,

    Pieter

    Hi 1996Z15,

    Welcome to Wilders , :D

Please download and install the latest Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 run-times:
    http://download.microsoft.com/download/vb60pro/Redist/sp5/WIN98Me/EN-US/vbrun60sp5.exe
You should then be without any problems.
Reboot and post the HijackLog, Ofcourse do NOT run HijackThis from "temp" folder or from Desktop or root, to be more clear
    NOT from these locations(samples)
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Directory 2 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP\HIJACKTHIS.EXE

    C:\HijackThis.exe
please create a folder in My Documents and call it Hijack (or something similar). Then extract hijackthis into the folder you have created and run it from there.

    keep posting

EDIT: kept for the information on how to run HijackThis after downloading
