hijack this log

I used Ad-aware and am getting the nkvd.us and searchpage when I open IE

Hello captainmo,

First thing I would like to point out is you have Bearshare. This is a source of great infection. My suggestion is to delete it. Your choice, but you are just asking to be infected. If you do choose to delete, I suggest moving anyfiles you have gotten from it to another place or they could also be deleted.

Reboot the computer into safe mode

Make sure you can view all hidden files and folders

Run Hijackthis again and check these items and then on Fix:

Next, delete the contents of the "temp" folder and completely delete the cache folders by doing this:

Open Internet Explorer. Then click on TOOLS in the top toolbar. Click on "Internet Options..." from the drop-down menu.
A new smaller window will display. Under the "General" tab, in the middle, are 3 buttons.
Click the Delete Cookies button - then a small warning box pops up. Click OK.
Click the Delete Files button - a small warning box pops us. Check the box for "Delete all offline content" and click OK.
Then on the same General tab, click Clear History, then click OK.

Reboot.

After that, please post a new HJT log.

Before you follow Taz advice, I'd recommend you to please search and delete the mtwirl.dll file from your Windows\System32 folder, when you're in safe mode.

Then Copy the contents of the Quote box to Notepad, and save as nkvdfix.reg (Make sure, save as type: all files ). Now, doubleclick on nkvdfix.reg, and answer yes when asked to have its contents added to the Registry.

Now, follow what Taz suggested you.

When you've done all that, restart your computer, re-run Hijack This, and show us a fresh log.

please help the last fix did not work

I used the info from taz and newkid but the darn nkvd.us porblem with my IE still is happening. One thing I thought was odd was that in safe mode my user name did not come up just the Administrator and my wifes logon. here is the log in case anyone has any ideas. Thanks to taz and newkid for there help this forum is great.
oh yeah I thought that i had already deleted bearshare and the mtwirl.dll file could not be deleted.

I merged your thread together. Please stick with this one or it will get to confusing.

Start your computer in Safe Mode (it may help if you print this out), and find and delete the mtwirl.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder

NOTE: To avoid the risk of any of the above not being found due to them having the 'Hidden' attribute, first make sure that in Folder Options > View hidden and operating system files are set to show.

Now copy the contents of the 'Quote' box to Notepad, and save as Remove.reg (save as type: 'all files' )
Doubleclick Remove.reg, and answer yes when asked to have its contents added to the Registry.

all of the ones relating to nkvd
and all the 013's

Reboot your computer and run HJT again and post a new log. We may have to change the attributes on the mtwirl.dll. But try to find it again and delete it first and see what happens.

 

Hey there. If the previous is not working for you and you can't delete mtwirl.dll I would like you to do this You should do this anyway)

Download CWShredder Click on update, then close all browsers, and then click on Fix, not scan.

Reboot and post a new log.

 

I am not 100% sure what I did that was different but I got the CW shredder and ran that and then ran hijack this and then was able to delete the mtwirl.dll file and all seems to be well with the IE thanks for your help with this if I have any more problems in the future this is the first place to go for answers

Log looks much better. Just want to point out that BearShare is a source of problems. If you are downloading, then chances are you will be infected again. Your choice but I would uninstall.
