    Hi Resa05,

    Welcome to Wilders' ;)

As far security is concerned, there are lots of choices/options, look around the forum as there's lots of info available. It would help if you gave a rundown of your operating system and what security tools you currently use, then others can easily provide advice. (a little background on your computer knowledge will be helpful too, so that you can be directed to appropriate programs.

As you computer is new, memory won't be a concern ;), most come amply supplied now a days.

If you asking about the "poll" section of Wilders', they're simply a survey of members/guests or of a sample of public opinion to acquire information type of thing.

    HTH, ;)

    Steve

Ps. I will move this thread to "Other Security Issues" where it will receive better attention.

Yes, I'm indeed a real person for sure. ;)

As far as info goes: What Anti-Virus, Software Firewall are you using?

While XP does come with a built in Firewall, it doesn't control outbound connections, it only handles inbound. The most user friendly software firewall is probably Zone Alarm ... you can download the free version here -> http://www.zonelabs.com/store/conte...!-1062696904!7551!7552!NONE?lid=staticcomp_za

Anti-Virus is a personal choice, most products are very good. You wouldn't go wrong with Kaspersky, Nod32 from Eset (support forum is here), Dr. Web etc.

There are freeware solutions available too, but they aren't up to the level of licensed products. You can obtain free versions of:

    AVG - http://www.grisoft.com/doc/40/lng/us/tpl/tpl01
    Antivir - http://www.free-av.com/
    Avast - http://www.avast.com/eng/down_home.html
    Bit Defender - http://www.bitdefender.com/bd/site/products.php?p_id=24

What Anti-Spy programs are you using?

There are three great programs available for free:

    Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
    Ad-Aware SE - http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/
    Microsoft Antispy - http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

You can use all three of these, but only 1 Anti-Virus and Software Firewall. There is of course, many options that you may exercise once you gain experience, but this will give you a solid foundation ... and provide all the necessary protection.

You can get Sun Java Here (free) -> http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

To check the amount of RAM you have on board, right-click on "My Computer" and select properties, The General Tab will show you how much memory you have. (at the bottom)

    HTH,

    Steve

im not good with computers i want to say that first hand :) as far as the info on my computer im not sure how to even begin knowing what firewall i have ...sorry...antivirus ...i have avg free edition...adaware/lavasoft<<if that is any help as far as info! and Spyware...spybotsd13<<if thats helpful also...i dont know if i mentioned i had xp sp2 or not but there it is...
Are you suggesting that I should download Zone Alarm as for a better Firewall?

Anti-Virus is a personal choice, most products are very good. You wouldn't go wrong with Kaspersky, Nod32 from Eset (support forum is here), Dr. Web etc.

As for that are suggesting I download more Anti-Virus Protection...I do have AVG Edition.

Should I download addition Spyware to what I already have?
As far as Java goes I'm in the process of gaining information on that in another forum...I haven't received any more replies on it at this time.
    Thank You Sincerely,
    Theresa

Hi resa05, and welcome to the forum.

I just noticed in your other thread located here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=75240 where you said the following:
Is it possible you are confusing Javacool's programs as being SunJava's? They are completely two different things. Javacool is the developer of several privacy programs, SpywareBlaster being one of them.

The link you mentioned in your quote above about going to javacool.com would be the wrong link for SpywareBlaster. If it is SpywareBlaster that you are asking about, then you can find the download links for it here:

    http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

Also, while I understand that you are new to the forum and still learning your way around it, I would ask that you please do not open multiple new topics on the same questions, as this can create confusion for those that will reply to your thread.

If you have another question unrelated to the existing thread, then find the correct forum and open a new topic about that subject.

Take a little bit of time and familiarize yourself with the board's layout; read a few topics that look related to your questions, and once you've got an idea of how this forum works, you'll be able to ask the right questions in the correct forum and people will be able to help you better.

    Regards,

    snap

I don't know anything about Java. I went to the www.java.com site. Whichever Java they had me download...I did. I dont know about sun java. But I know its called java (TM) platform...is that what i need to play my games on pogo.com?...Also since downloading java tm playform my computer seems to be running a bit slower.
    Thank You all.
Still learning this site, please be patient with me if I post in the wrong area, Thanks again...............

....^^^^since writing that i have removed the java tm platform...and my computer is running faster and also....i can still play games that are supported by java...do i have another java on here that needs to be removed or updated? but the java applet itself is slow.
