    My friend wants me to secure her computer, and I'm not sure what to put on it. She doesn't know anything about computers, so what programs can I install that will do everything on it's own...for the most part?

    for a beginner install avira personal or avast home + superantispyware free for on demand scan(uncheck "start when windows starts").
    i think this is enough.

    03) - Microsoft Windows Firewall (built-into Microsoft Windows no installation required)

    04) - Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 (ad blocking, private browsing, and other security enhancements)

    05) - Limited User Account (optional)
