When i start up NOD32 it opens the scanning log window where it tells me the version, operating memory etc. Then just below that, in blu writing, it says 'Error occurred while scanning active boot sector of the 1.physical disk. Error reading sector.

Is this something i should worry about and if so any suggestions how to fix it?

Do you have a card reader in your computer ?
If yes, then when it is empty, Nod32 sometimes show this error message (in fact not with all computers). And no worry to have about this then.

    Here are the basics:

    Blue text:
Error (extra information for you that most AV-vendors doesn't tell you about)

    Yellow text:
Malware cleaned (malware found and cleaned)

    Red:
Malware found (malware found. And depending on your settings, it either requires you to decide what to do, or NOD has done it automatically [which makes it yellow])

And as zashita says, any external device can cause NOD to report a virus or the likes.
When I plug my camera to my pc, NOD tells a boot virus was found :) Funny
