System Volume Information should have full permissions for SYSTEM only. Go to "Advanced" section, give full permissions to SYSTEM, uncheck the "Inherit" option and check the "apply to subfolders" option.

I'm in Vista now but my RECYCLER folders (created by my XP install) have permissions for System, Administrators, Users and Authenticated Users. It's not a big deal, as it's invisible and gets re-created anyway.

Recycler allows admins and system all, creator none.
Users allowed read/execute, list contents and read.

    System volume allows system all.

My recycler permissions are the same as for the drive (it inherits). As I said, it's just trash so it's no big deal.
