    1. Stop using the external drive until you have unerase software installed and can use it on that drive to recover your file.

    2. Download a good file recovery program such as PC Inspector: http://www.pcinspector.de/Sites/file_recovery/info.htm?language=1

Others may have favorite recovery programs that they can recommend.

    3. Install the program on your computer's internal hard drive - niot on the external drive.

    4. Run the program and recover your backup file.

    5. Run TI's validate to confirm that the recovered file is a valid backup archive.

    6. Mount the backup file in TI to confirm that you can see your data.

    7. Don't erase a backup file that you need in the future. :)

If your documents are still available on your computer why not just create a fresh backup?

You didn't say you were using Vista, and PC Inspector doesn't claim Vista compatibility.

This is a program that states that it is Vista compatible, but it is not free.

The unerase program will simple recreate the file where it was originally. You do not have to save it to another drive. Select the file to unerase, and it will appear again when you use Windows Explorer.
