This proxy server which I beleive is associated with cool www search will not go away 127.0.0.1 port 8080. I've tried deleting it in the registry key, I've tried cool shredder , spybot, pc cillin, and spyware blaster and nothing works. In spyblaster a message will come up every 20 minutes or so saying my active x controls are set up in an unsecure way. I click the button to fix them and twenty minutes later they've been reset. Please help.

    Thanks

    Hello turkey,

Download Hijack This Save this program in My Documents. Run the program, and press Scan. When you are doing this, make sure you have No Internet Explorer Windows open, including this one. You will notice the Scan button will turn into a "Save Log" button. Save the log and Post that log onto this topic. DO NOT Delete or modify anything yet, as some of it is needed to keep your system in Good Shape.

    Hello,

Wow, ok, we can do this:

I would like you to try this:

This is the updated version of CWShredder, so uninstall the one you have and download this one:

CWShredder Click on update, then close all browsers, and then click on Fix, NOT scan.

    Hi Turkey,

It is best to just check back periodically for new posts and recommendations.

A lot of the experts live in different timezones so it could take a while.

Please read all this very carefully and it's important that you do this in the order laid out otherwise you might leave your computer unworkable

DO NOT RUN ADAWARE OR SPYBOT UNTIL YOU HAVE CLEANED UP WITH HIJACKTHIS FIRST AND REBOOTED

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.
These easily get lost in a Temp folder or in the root of C: or get scattered all over the desktop and we need to empty the temp folders to remove the hijackers

Run hijackthis, tick these entries listed below and ONLY these entries, double check to make sure, then make sure all browser & email windows are closed and press fix checked

Reboot into safe mode by following instructions here: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2001052409420406
then as some of the files or folders you need to delete may be hidden do this:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
    Click "Apply" then "OK"

    Delete these files

    C:\Windows\System32\wsaupdater.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\EOJTBL.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\JXFPZHUC.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\BHOUB.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\bxxs5.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\bridge.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\idctup20.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\vav.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\dcpohotv.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\swdmcapk.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Adel\Application Data\amee.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wapisvsu.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\input.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\runwin32.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\wininet32.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Adel\Application Data\DownloadPlus.exe
    c:\searchpage.html#1525

    and Delete these folders

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\pcs
    C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\
    C:\Program Files\TV Media
    C:\Program Files\webHancer
    C:\Program Files\WindowsSA
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\PSD Tools

then go to C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Local Settings\Temp and select everything in that folder and delete it

as XP will not let you delete files less than 24 hours old as it thinks it might need them please also do this
while in the temp folder, select view and select details.
then right click a blank part and select arrange icons by, and select show in groups and modified, that will give a list of all files in date order with today at the top of the page.
select all the files/folders except the today ones and delete them all.

and select EVERYTHING in C:\windows\temp except temporary internet files, cookies and history folders and delete all that as well

    1) Open Control Panel
    2) Click on Internet Options
    3) On the General Tab, in the middle of the screen, click on Delete Files
    4) You may also want to check the box "Delete all offline content"
    5) Click on OK and wait for the hourglass icon to stop after it deletes the temporary internet files
    6) You can now click on Delete Cookies and click OK to delete cookies that websites have placed on your hard drive

    then
    Reboot normally &

go to ie/tools/options/connections/ click on your connection/ settings and untick use a proxy server
    then

Download and unzip or install these programs/applications if you haven't already got them. If you have them, then make sure they are updated and configured as described

    Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
    AdAware 6 from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download

    Run Sybot S&D

After installing, first press Online, press search for updates, then tick the updates it finds, then press download updates. Beside the download button is a little down pointed arrow, select one of the servers listed. If it doesn't work or you get an error message then try a different server

Next, close all Internet Explorer and OE windows, press 'Check for Problems', and have SpyBot remove all it finds that is marked in RED.

    then reboot &

    Run ADAWARE

Before you scan with AdAware, check for updates of the reference file by using the "webupdate".
the current ref file should read at least 01R314 02.06.2004 or a higher number/later date
    Then ........

Make sure the following settings are made and on -------"ON=GREEN"
From main window :Click "Start" then " Activate in-depth scan"

    then......

click "Use custom scanning options>Customize" and have these options on: "Scan within archives" ,"Scan active processes","Scan registry", "Deep scan registry" ,"Scan my IE Favorites for banned URL" and "Scan my host-files"

    then.........

go to settings(the gear on top of AdAware)>Tweak>Scanning engine and tick "Unload recognized processes during scanning" ...........then........"Cleaning engine" and "Let windows remove files in use at next reboot"

then...... click "proceed" to save your settings.

Now to scan it´s just to click the "Scan" button.

When scan is finished, mark everything for removal and get rid of it. (Right-click the window and choose"select all" from the drop down menu) then press next and then say yes to the prompt, do you want to remove all these entries.

    reboot again

then post a new hijackthis log to check what is left

there will still be at least 2 hijackers there after this fix that need special extra removal so make sure you post back with a new log so we can get rid of the cws hoijacker and the zestyfind/L2M that I'm pretty sure is hiding there

the easiest way is to right click the desktop, select new folder, rename it as HJT and then drag the hijackthis.exe file from the desktop to the new folder, otherwise you will find the desktop covered with about 200 backup files for all the crap we are going to remove

That way all the backups will be made inside the new folder and available if needed

    Hi turkey,

Before you start, please unzip hijackthis to a separate folder. The program will make backups in the folder in the folder it's in.

    Hi turkey,

Getting closer. A few diehards left.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {87766247-311C-43B4-8499-3D5FEC94A183} - C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\WinTools\WToolsB.dll (file missing)

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smysts] C:\WINDOWS\System32\smysts.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinTools] C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools\WToolsA.exe

    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [TV Media] C:\Program Files\TV Media\Tvm.exe

Then reboot into safe mode and delete:
    C:\Program Files\TV Media <= entire folder
    C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools <= entire folder

Then one more log and only one more entry left to do (hopefully)

    Regards,

    Pieter

What about the "about:blank" still in my system? Is that not harmful?

If about: blank is an empty page, it's not harmfull.
It is a default option for people that do not want a Startpage.
It only gets hijacked to display sites sometimes.

    Pieter

Thank you so much. What you guys do hear is both amazing and extremely generous. I now know where to go if I should ever have another computer problem.

    Thanks again,
