    Hello,

If anyone has a good link or some general information to provide, I'd love to hear it. So far, I've only added rules to block ICMP requests, incoming and outgoing, and also to block incoming attempts to connect to some of my machine's TCP ports (20, 21, 25, 80, etc.)

I've done some snooping on the web, with the help of the yahoo search engine, but the sites I visited weren't very helpful.

    Thank you

the following is posted at your request....UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT PERSONALLY SUGGESTING THAT YOU USE OR NOT USE AN PARTICULAR RULE/RULES.....I do not use Sygate Firewall and have no knowledge of rules specific to sygate

You might want to check out the sygate forum. you should be able to get some good advice there

    Hi Joe

You have been given a couple of links so far, but if you need a hand with rule configuration feel free to ask here as well.

I can see defining ICMP rules in the Advanced Rules section, do you really need those others? Sygate should be blocking any unsolicited inbound by default.

    Regards,

    CrazyM

my pt of view ;) :
i use advanced rules to block hazard-port 135,137,138... 'cos sygate did not block those connection!

i also block toolbar.google.com 'cos as stated from its privacy policy:
"Periodically, the Google Toolbar contacts our servers to see if you are running the most current version. If necessary, we will automatically provide you with the latest update to the Google Toolbar"
and it's true ->from sygate logs, i see that the toolbar sometimes connect to that website the moment i open my internet browser
u only need to uncheck the square box on the "description" part should u wanna view http://toolbar.google.com from ur browser
