HDM 2009; Partition Table error

    I have just changed my friends HardDisk by deleting an unused Partition at the beginning of the HD, shrinking C: Drive, Enlarging D: Drive and adding a new partition (Z) at the end of the HD.
    All appears to work fine with windows except that when looking at the HD in HDM again there are too many partitions adding up to too much space. All partitions are shown as unformatted or free space.
    How do I correct this problem as I haven't seen it before
