I'm not going to point my finger here directly to Avira, but my Father had the free version of Avira on his PC and within the past two weeks almost every 2nd day his PC has been locking up. Now this lockups mainly occur when he leaves the PC idle or during the time when he's using Outlook Express. I'm not sure if it's Avira and is so would it be clashing with something else.

I think that the problem is more likely to be somewhere else, there haven't been many reports on the antivir forum about lockups for quite a long time and those were tracked back to broken hardware, viral infections or other software.

You might want to try their forums though, but you should give a bit more information about the issue then.

I have used it on two different computers, and there has not been such a problem.
I am now using the PC Welt trial offer, and really like it.

    Best,

I don't think this issue is related to Avira.

That sounds like a problem with OE. Avira doesn't even scan OE emails. Does he get error messages when this happens? What does Event Viewer say? I think he should back up his OE mail as it sounds like OE might not open one day soon...corrupted folders. I've had Avira since early January and no problems with OE or freezing of the computer when idle. I use OE Tool to keep OE in good shape and OE Freebie Backup.
