True DEP protection for all programs in your system can only be turned on by editing boot.ini

In my case I have no issue with any of the programs I am using but others may run into issues.

To turn on system wide DEP go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875352 and follow the instructions.

Assuming you're using XP or Vista you can turn on DEP in:

    Advanced System Properties/performance/Data Execution Provention

By default it is on for Windows components. You can turn it on for all applications and then monitor your system for issues. You can always add applications to the exclusion list if they have problems with DEP.

I have used this Securable utility for awhile. Sometimes it it shows 'Yes' and another time 'Locked On'. Go figure! Either way, I guess I am protected. o_O
