i dont think i would trust the avg detection rate.
i am a safe surfer but everyone has there off days:D
my off days arent to bad thou.
i might go with something like e.g. nod32 with prevx and sas pro on demand.
    behind nat router.
prevx with cover the HIPS and outbound firewall traffic.
nod32 was just an example since i havent decided on which av yet.
so the av would cover the general malware base.
sas pro would be mainly on demand just in case.
or online armour instead of prevx if i can afford it.

Reading your posts several month's now it is unclear to me what licensed anti-whatever malware you are running.
It seems to me at least you change very often and you have a lot of licenses. Just tell me I am wrong about that.
Another question: When do you finish your own-build pc?

basically my current software setup is in my sig with regards to real time protection and on demand scanners and hasn't changed since December 2006. the licences for antimalware products are the ones in my sig everything else i have used trials.
when i say about testing Drweb etc etc i test it on my old pc.
the stuff posted is discussing the security setup i am thinking about putting on my new pc.

I need to get some money together to buy the parts for the new pc i havent started buying the parts yet. im gonna get a weekend job to pay for the new pc.
i am planning way in advance

    Hello,

lodore, I'm amazed by your statement. Truly amazed.

Detection rates, bad days, as if ... as if ... something active and wild is happening out there...

Nothing is happening. Nothing. I really cannot understand how you bring yourself to see even a single prompt from any security software - or how using this product or that has ANYTHING to do with anything.

Please tell me how you manage to get the AV prompts, because in my career of 400GB of porn and stuff I have yet to see a single one. What the hell do you do? And how is AVG / Kaspersky going to ... do whatever you expect them to do while you play online?

    Mrk

I would recommend BitDefender. It has a very good detection rate, doesn't use many sources, great support, possibility to install on 2 - 3 pc's with the same key, 2 year licence. You have 3 different versions:
    BitDefender Antivirus: http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-2145-en--BitDefender-Antivirus-v10.html
    BitDefender Antvirus Plus: http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-2143-en--BitDefender-Antivirus-Plus-v10.html
    BitDefender Internet Security:
    http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-2141-en--BitDefender-Internet-Security-v10.html

    1. If the popups annoy you then why don't you simply use the "Low" setting in KAH? You see no popup's and still be protected.

    2. The anti-spam in KIS a a damn fine anti-spam, but it does require you to train it...........and i guess this is where you're stumbling because neither the Dr Web or the AVG versions that you mention would be any better.

For optimum performance, i would try no AV but just a HIPS. I don't play games but this is what i think o_O . But If you really need a AV, i would try out different av's with tunning some settings and see which works best for me. Feel free to tell me,if I am wrong. If you don't mind spending some money than First defense Isr would be very fine choice.

Please correct me if i am wrong.

your right i never have any prompts from my secuirty software because you have to be stupid and click random links for that.
its just nice to know that if i done an on demand scan with a program it could detect something if i missed something and i think AVG is a false sence of secuirity.

since my programs have internet access i have put antihacker on high.

i didnt train antispam before because up intil till last friday i was using thunderbird but after a mega bug in the thunderbird profile manager i am now back to using outlook express so i have just trained antispam in KIS6.0

the main reason for kis6.0 on my main pc is the fact that my mum and dad use this pc for internet banking.
but for the pc that im building for myself all i need is firewall for outbound control.
a HIPS for control and to see what my computer is doing.
a lightweight av just incase. if the updates slow down my gaming on that pc i can just set them to manual and say update once a day since i know it will be clean anyway.

    Training it will take time.

Now regarding your problem...................You should not keep it in high and frankly i do not understand you because there are no popups in high...............everything not in the rules are default blocked without notice! So how you get those popups is a mystery to me.

Lodore, you should IMHO never use the High setting because you might block something you shouldn't. You should use "Low" IMO. :)

Hi ladore, as u are making a test bed I think. Keep it free of any scanner. Just put a firewall( any free one), a free sandbox, pay for a good imaing software( I know u r inclined to SP) and see what type of malware you get after a fixed time interval, say 3 months or so.
No worries for a scanner! It will save ur posts too!!

    good point.
if kaspersky allowed it to be installed on more than one pc then i would use that on mky second pc but its one license=one pc.
most companys allows up to three pc's per license.
but i can get nod32 for just £10 or drweb for just £7.50 or bitdefender OEM for £3.50 (could buy with pc)
