The crime was discovered by tracing malware-infected network attached storage (NAS) drives back to a single hacker. Researchers at Dell say the hoard, which took just two months to accumulate, may represent the largest operation of its type to date.

A ransomware Trojan gang appears to be moving on, and has offered to sell its remaining decryption keys in bulk for 200 BTC ($103,000, £61,500).
Cybercrooks behind the recent SynoLocker Trojan – which targets the network attached storage devices manufactured by Synology – have apparently decided to cash out on their ill-gotten gains. The ransomware encrypted users' files before demanding a payment for a private key necessary to unscramble them.

SynoLocker victims who paid but still couldn’t unlock files get a second crack

If you paid $350 fee to unlock your files on a SynoLocker trapped storage device but still couldn’t access them, there may be hope thanks to a new tool from Finnish security vendor F-Secure.

The usual advice from security experts when it comes to ransomware is simply do not pay because it supports their business model. But victim’s of malware that encrypts files have little choice but to pay if they want their their files back now. That is, unless they have an unaffected backup.
