Vector Development announced today the release of Guideon, a free product that allows people to remove GUIDs from Microsoft Office files. These files, which include Microsoft Word Documents and Excel Spreadsheets, include an identifier that can be used t o identify the author or at a minimum the machine upon which the document was written.

This can be a serious problem for privacy since it could be used to prove who wrote a sensitive document. Unfortunately Microsoft didn't tell anyone that this identifier existed or provide a way to turn it off. As a result we have developed a free softw are application that allows people to remove these identifiers from Microsoft Office files.

This was a real first to me. Was awear of other ID revealers but not this one. Wonder if the new Windows still have this ?
