Guard.exe

I have installed Ewido and everything seems to work great. One thing I don't understand though. When I disable resident shield the guard.exe keeps running in Task Manager. Even if I shut Ewido down completely guard.exe still runs. If I end the process in Task Manager then it stops running and stays off until I activate the resident shield again. Then it runs and if I deactivate the shield the guard. exe still runs in Task Manager. It seems the only way to shut the guard.exe off is to end the process in Task Manager. Than it stays of until I activate it. Is this normal or a bug? Shouldn't guard.exe shut off when you shut off resident shield?
