Groundhog Security Patch

    Hi!

    Windows update keeps trying to load "Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)" and the install keeps failing and then it starts again. Reboots etc make no difference. Argh, any ideas?

    I tried repairing the .NET install that didn't help. Now uninstalling and reinstalling .NET then I'll try the patch.

    it worked! Phew. Time to refresh that true image backup!

    Next time you encounter this you might try this solution. This assumes you are comfortable with editing the registry

    Go to Hkey_local_machine\Software\Classes\Installer\Products

    Then check each key until you find the one that is the product you are having trouble with. If that key has a subkey named Patches rename the subkey to Patchesold.

    Good chance this will fix the problem and the update will go smoothly.

    I've had to do this a couple of times, and it works.

    Thanks I'll bear this thread in mind for the next time.

    Don't know how this happened but my edited version of the post has somehow became a duplicate post. Sorry Bubba (if you read this). Honest I didn't mean to cross-post.
