I have Picasa & Chrome installed.
Is the msconfig-startup-googleupdate entry required to update the above products or the entry can be unchecked & the above products will still autoupdate?

AFAIK it needs the google update startup entry enabled for the programs to auto update, disabling it would mean you would have to manually update the programs.

Then what are those google updates entries in scheduled tasks?
There are 4 entries, 2 runs every hour & 2 runs every day.

Those tasks are for periodic update checks.
The msconfig entry is for Google Update to run at startup.

If you uncheck in msconfig only, the scheduled tasks would still run at the preconfigured times.
