I'm looking for any programs that excel at finding key loggers. Good removal abilities are nice too, but not as important because I would reformat if I found any, probably. Only looking for scanners that will scan a computer and report any hidden loggers right now, not programs like Zemana that block them from installing. Freeware options are more than welcome. :D Thanks very much.

Download Prevx free and do a scan it will detect but not remove any key loggers only the paid version will! Also it will remove Adware and the MBR Rootkit for free if detected! http://info.prevx.com/downloadcsi.asp

he asked specifically for scanners and pointed out he doesnt want keylogger prevention like HIPS. so prevx wuld be good, and A2 is also pretty good IMO

You are correct. I didn't read closely enough. Shame on me.

Now that I have read OP's request more closely, I have to wonder why anyone would actually want to detect keyloggers after-the-fact rather than PREVENT their coming on board in the first place.

OP wants a scanner to find keyloggers, if any exist. However, if a scanner DOES find a keylogger, that would mean that the keylogger had already been installed, & could already have stolen information.

In short, an after-the-fact scan is closing the barn door after the horses have already been stolen. Even if OP restores a clean image to eliminate the keylogger, that again is closing the barn door too late. Information may already have been stolen, & a restore will not erase that fact.

Other than keyloggers, all other infections are merely inconveniences when one has restore points or clean images. But allowing an operational keylogger to invade your system is more than an inconvenience. It is often downright DISASTROUS.

IMO, if someone is (a) doing sensitive transactions, and is (b) using data where compromise thereof could be much more than a mere inconvenience, then anti-keylogger software should minimally include:

1- A firewall that prevents ALL outgoing connections except those specifically permitted by the user.

2- Keylogger prevention & detection software

    3- Keyboard encryption/obfuscation software

No doubt OP has already thought of all this stuff I have posted. But others might read this thread & get a possibly hazardous idea that after-the-fact scanning is all that is needed in the war against keyloggers. Therefore I went OT. So shoot me. :argh:

well from what ive read thats not what he seems to be looking for... he wants scanners that have good ability to detect keyloggers if there are any.

does anyone read people's posts before replying anymore?

Thanks for the suggestions so far. firzen771 is completely right, I'm only looking for scanners, not hips and other stuff that blocks key loggers.

I figured there might be more options but ok I can still use A2 and Prevx. Not sure they excel at finding these bugaboos but will give them a shot. Maybe with a couple free antivirus I'll do ok.
