    Any recommendations, preferably open source or freeware.
    Can GIMP do it?

    Tried it in GIMP.
    Works marvel - not exactly like in tutorial, but I worked it out.

    I've tried the free Serif PhotoPlus 6.0.
    It is well designed and easy to use.
    You do have to register to use it and they will send you email offers for the newer versions and their other software. But the offers are not too frequent and the prices for the quality they offer is really good. Just use an email that you can filter if you don't like it or if they send too many emails. You will need to receive the activation code through the email.
