I don't use geswall now. Did for a long time quite a while ago and never had a problem. I think it was an early v2. something. I knew nothing about geswall. Just download and forget it. I think it's secure right out of the box.

Nice program. Out of the box experience is good especially for beginners. Configuring is kind of "isn't easy" for a newbie but it's a solid program. Too bad GesWall forum isn't as active as wilders.

Quick question. I'm using IE 9 beta. I'm having trouble downloading anything with geswall enabled and IE isolated. It will allow download but upon completion IE says "file moved or deleted". Any idead what's going on?

I think you're right. I have no problem downloading with Chrome. Hopefully version 3.0 will support IE9.

only thing i don't like about Geswall is the lack of communication from the company and the few updates.

as long as the product works ok it's not that big of a deal though.

i'm no expert but i wouldn't call it a HIPS.

it's closest relative would be Defensewall but it's a paid product.

Sandboxie is somewhat similar but has a free version.

Hmm... to me it seems almost dead. It is a great piece of software though.

The company updated the site and has a spot for 64 bit ready in the download section. Seems like it might be close to release if they spiffed it up and have a spot open.

I don't want to start a A vs. B discussion, but can anyone that has compared Geswall vs. Sandboxie PM me their thoughts? Of if you have a link with a solid review comparing them both, that would work just as well.....thanks

FWIT, i have license for both Geswall and Sandboxie.

i like them both but Geswall is easier for me to use "out of the box".

of course, Sandboxie has the advantage of having a large user base and frequent updates.
and once it's setup properly it's good to go.

Yeah this just seems like some advanced Sandbox is all, Sandboxie should be just as good...

So is 2.9 old, how long has it been out?

I personally don't like the Geswell GUI/layout, to much going on...

2.9 kept locking up Firefox, and so Geswall get's the BIG UNINSTALL from me!:thumbd:

Because this forum does not allow A vs. B comparisons.

You can compare apples to oranges, just not oranges to oranges or apples to apples.
Oranges are the way to go though, apples will bring you down.

Sandboxie protects the browser, Geswall protects the computer.

Hi - Can you please elaborate on that? Which is lighter or resources and easier to use? Can you get away with the free versions of these programs, or do they have nags screens, popups etc.?

I believe Sandboxies license is lifetime. What about Geswall? Thanks

Geswall is lifetime as well, unless i live longer than 2099. ;)

update for pre-configured Applications is for 1 year although you can make your own with the Applications Wizard.

why don't you download both and give them a try?

No, both protect certain applications( threat gates).
