    Hi,

if you want to have a free license for Gdata AV, IS or Total Care, just sign up at the Rokop forum and shoot the breeze in the corresponding thread.
Just some fiddling yackety yack with Google Translator.

At the end of the beta test the GData guy will invite every participant of their shameless advertising campaign at this rotten forum to send him a PM for a free license.

BTW the 'beta tests' are a real farce, last year they delivered the Kaspersky/Avast version for testing and finally released the Bitdefender/Avast version, which no beta tester had ever seen before. :argh:

    Cheers

I wonder if they will stay with current setup this time. Or they will surprise us again.

Anyone tested this ? I mean Av, not security suite.

Some info about performance and resource usage and possible detection ?

Hey, Double the gun, double the fun.

Will it be a 1-year license?

I believe (and I see it in my tests despite what other says) that BitDefender + Avast = still poor detection rates.

Devs ditched the kav engine in favor of the bitdefender one (running along with the avast engine) for all this year's versions. That was a bad move, imo.

v.2010 will be the same :(

:thumb: You are a frequent poster in that "rotten forum":thumb:
btw a remark to the 2009-Beta-test: the engine combination was changed during the beta phase, but only a few users did notice this.

You are really doing a great job...

I've been looking all over the Internet for a G DATA Forum. No luck so far. They don't have any, is that it? I'd like to know for sure because I'm not buying unless they have a Forum. I will not accept being confined to emails for support. That's just not good enough nowadays. I want full access to that knowledge base that a Forum always is.

    First, I wouldn't know if I wouldn't be a member there.
Second, I'm a top secret member of the anti-product-placement-resistance-group, therefore I have a lot to post there. :shifty:

    Cheers

    PS
    But don't tell anyone

Is the Rokop forum the official G DATA Forum? I didn't see any English section in there...

Also: is it known which firewall is inside G DATA Total Care 2009 (and 2010 Beta)? The malware is covered by Avast! and BitDefender but I'd like to know the specs about the firewall too.

Nope and there is no official G DATA Forum, neither in German nor in English.
At their international site you can just ask for a 'Service request' or call the 'G DATA EmergencyLine'.
    http://www.gdatasoftware.com/support/US/hotline

As far as I know the firewall is a made by GData and pretty basic, at least related to leak test results.
And if I remember correctly, Matousec stated for the GData IS 2009, that it achieved the worst performance results of all tested FW.

    Cheers

Thanks. That answers all my questions. I have 8 days of trial period left on this G DATA Total Care 2009. I must say that I really like it but I can't live with that support. Phone or mail. It's ridiculous. An open search-able Forum is a minimum requirement when it comes to support. And access to a free discussion with other users in the threads. I would also expect to find articles and tutorials with user comments in various posts in a security forum. Just like here. So no G DATA for me.

    Thanks again for your help.

I'm running the AV 2010 beta and it seems they have improved the RAM usage. I am showing about 40k total in running processes. The 2009 AV was running over 200k last time I tested it. Maybe they fixed some of the bloat. We'll see. The on-demand scan is a bit faster than the 2009 version, and I have both engines enabled. Seems to be a bit faster overall on my system.

The system isn't much slowed down with this version unless you browse through a folder with many big exes, e.g. installers. Then it can happen that the whole explorer freezes for some seconds and it takes years until the icons of the programs appear. That's why I hate multi engine scanners at least if the use Avast (slow) + Bitdefender (system hog) :gack:
