For free specific anti-spyware real-time protection i would say Spybot S&D.

    Kingsoft PC Doctor
    Windows Defender
    Immunet
    Rising PC doctor

There are more obscure programs on the list.

In terms of detection, sure is. But ST has other features like HIPS.

I think a combination of SpyShelter Free and MBAM Free would effectively replace SpywareTerminator

I would agree that would be a good combo. Also check out trjam's Zamana giveaway which looks good - https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=317603

Otherwise, keep an eye out for giveaways which happen all the time. Also, MBAM Pro has been as cheap as $10 for a lifetime license recently if that helps.

Todays antivirus are more than a antivirus, they do it all, they are antimalware!

    ST isn't needed.

I use mbam free, sas free and Outpost free occasionally to keep a check on my

    system.

While mbam free and sas free don't auto-update, Outpost free does update once a day. ;)

I have bought 2 copies of MBAM and it's been $19.95 I believe after the discount. Also have it right from the developers email that MBAM is for eternity. There is no yearly upgrade cost that some of it's payware competitors have.

There are discounts for MBAM all over the net, usually in the range of 15-20%

    You mean malware definition updates?

    -edit-

I also see that ST now either belongs to a new company (PCRx) or they changed the previous name?

If able to purchase in the US the online store Newegg.com has MBAM on sale every month or two (it seems) for anywhere in the $10-14 range.
