    Thanks wilbertnl.

U have MBR and first track options while imaging a partition but no such option in recovery CD while restoring that partition. Correct?

I took an image of my C partitionincluding MBR and first track with default settings and here is what I see.( Pic 1)

I see it running in VB. Unfortunately I was not able to run it in VB( latest version), tried both aith mounted ISO and CD rom. It will just stuck here.( Pic 2)

I screwed the pouch on buying Drive Backup 8.5 Personal Edition. You have to purchase the Professional Edition, at twice the price, to get the Cyclic Backup to limit the size or numbers of backup images. Acronis calls this Quotas and is included in ATI10.

Also, I am not sure what the $11 Recovery Disk is - WinPE or Linux. Support told me Linux can't handle files over 2GB which is why the images have to be split. WTF.

So recovery CD might be Linux rather than WinPE?

All the screenshots I took are from the recovery CD.
When you create an image of the whole disk, you are able to select which areas you want to backup: any combination of MBR, first track and partitions.
When you restore and select the complete archive (the archive is also a combination of the previously selected areas), you are able to select which areas to restore.

I suggest that you create an image of the whole disk, including MBR, first track and first partition. And check your options when you restore from the same archive.

The recovery CD is based on Linux (full mode), and the safe mode is based on DOS.

wilbertnl: with so many things to read, i sometimes get confused/ forget some basic things.
Are the MBR and first track the only things you need to image besides the HD's contents? Isn't the MBR included in the first track? Maybe it's better to have them both anyway for some reason.
    TIA

    Pedro,

I usually take an image of the system partition only.

Aigle was asking about the MBR, and I showed all the options that are available from the Recovery CD.
MBR and first track don't take much space in the archive, so if you like you could always include them. You are able to ignore them when you restore (for example to a different size harddisk).

That,s Ok. I tried from Windows, not from recovery CD. I get the same option while backing up a partition or full disk, MBR, First Track, Partition(s).
I take image of my system partition only( C).
I will try to re-check it later.
I don,t find two options in Recovery Media Builder, only one ISO that can be burned from inside the software or by any burner manually.
Are u talking of the recovery CD that you get specially from Paragon people?

    Thanks

    The answer from Paragon.
The full recovery CD is a free download when you upgrade to the Personal Edition.

How Exactly Do I get the Recovery CD Image? There seems to be no link on the Paragon site I can Download it from. Secondly' When I try to create the rescue disk image for the supplied iso in the Paragon program I also get the exact scenario that is posted previously namely a _ & nothing else. I believe that if you cannot use the recovery cd that this program is probably of limited usefulness for rescue. It seems to back up well & is well behaved but how could you rescue a badly behaveing system?

ok this is how i made the recovery cd for paragon 8.0 hard drive manager,
i went to the recovery media wizard and choose the virtual cd drive
it then created it to the virtual drive.
then browse to the program files find the paragon folder and in a sub folder you will find a folder called ISO.
burn the iso called something like virtual to a cd using your fav cd burning program.
then boot the pc from the cd.
you can restore the images from that.
i have successfully restored an image with the that method of creating the recovery cd and then booting from that cd.

    Lodore,

I still have no clue what you are doing there. You are making an emulator.iso which is exactly the same as the bootcd.iso and then burn the emulator on a CD, or do you burn bootcd.iso on a disk?
Why not burn directly the bootcd.iso which is already there?
    Am I missing something?

Ok, what is the difference between backup HD and Copy HD?
Copy is clone, Backup is image?
If i backup, can't i duplicate that HD by restoring it on another HD?

    edited beer factor.

if you want to backup the HD then use backup.
if you want to copy the HD to another HD use copy.

This free offer is still alive!

I downloaded PHDM8 and registered it on the website this morning. Looks like they've extended the offer way past the April 11 closing date.

I use IFW/IFD for imaging, so I plan to use Paragon 8 just for disk partitioning. Does it play nice with RAID?
