The question is: why don't they make a better product ?

Smaller companies like Eset do much better.

It doesn't seem to make any sense.

Could it be that they receive enough revenue from Enterprise sales (where they do have a decent product) and pre-bundling promotions that they just don't feel the need?

... bloated company with a lot of bureaucracy, without A TRUE LEADER.
The company needs a real shake-up.

As of February 28, 2011, McAfee is a wholly owned subsidiary of Intel; therefore,

"Most security suites like McAfee come pre-installed on a trial basis for 1-3 months depending on the manufacturer."

"The McAfee® Internet Security software comes pre-installed on every Acer Laptop and Desktop PC."

"Your DELL laptop comes with pre-installed 30 day trial of McAfee SecurityCenter software."

Coincidentally to this thread, the pre-installed 30-day trial of McAfee IS on my new Asus Win8 x64 laptop has just expired and rather than immediately "experiment" with other products, I've installed the Facebook 6-month offer, not because I particularly liked McAfee IS or would have chosen it in the first place but because during the preceding 30-days, much to my surprise McAfee IS has been entirely well-behaved, glitch-free and unobtrusive.
This could be as much or more due to Win8 being MS's most refined and clever OS yet than any qualities of McAfee IS itself but it remains my sincere observation.

IMO McAfee isn't bad but there is nothing about their products that would make me want to use it over a competitor's, and there lies the problem with McAfee.
