I would like to know -
    1. How I can install Prevx without the Safeonline trial?
    2. Does a free version of SafOnline exist?
    3. To what extent is the full version of Prevx crippled without the SafOnline add-on?
    4. Does the current version of SafeOnline support Firefox 3.6.6, Opera 10.6 and Chrome 5.0?

    Hello ravi16aug!

    1. Yes you can install Prevx without SafeOnline see here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showpost.php?p=1647286&postcount=2
    2. No there is not as SafeOnline is built into Prevx 3.0 but you can use the Full Featured one from Facebook but it will have the Detection Only for malware and will remove Adware and the MBR Rootkit you can get it here: http://www.prevx.com/safebook.asp
    3. It's not crippled at all it just wont protect your online Activity as stated here in the picture: Capture06-07-2010-12.00.54 PM.jpg
    4. Chrome 5.0 Yes and Opera 10.60 is supported with the latest RC 3.0.5.179 see here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=276151 and if you want to install the RC without SafeOnline you will have to use this commandline: prevxcsibeta.exe /prop SECUREB=N

I hope I answered your Questions if you have anymore feel free to ask! ;)

    TH

Thanks for the reply. I have a few doubts though -
Seeing that SafeOnline is a browser/surf protection app, what difference does it make in detecting and blocking malware. Will it let the browser download the malware, visit bad sites, and then if I scan manually it will tell me if something nasty was downloaded? Why can't the free version of Prevx cover that?
You mean to say that even the full version of Prevx will not stop my browser from being hijacked?

I will let Joe (PrevxHelp) answer your concerns of the first part but as to the second The Full Prevx has SafeOnline so if you remove SafeOnline no it will not protect the Browser from being hijacked!

I have though about my comment and I have revise my statement Prevx without SafeOnline will only protect the Browser hijack if the malware is executed then Prevx will Block the malware then at that time the Browser Hijack is stopped! But for complete Browser Protection you do need SafeOnline as it will protect your Online activities such as Shopping or Banking Online even if you are infected! But Joe will add his comments an clear anything I missed or messed up!

SafeOnline covers everything that Prevx or other security products may miss - for example, if Prevx was unable to detect a brand new Zeus banking trojan, SafeOnline generically prevents Zeus from stealing banking information. The same applies for keyloggers, screengrabbers, clipboard stealers, and several dozen other techniques used by infections.

SafeOnline is definitely a complement to Prevx 3.0, but you can use Prevx without SafeOnline if wanted as TH explained (and his other comments are also accurate, as usual :))

The SECUREB=N commandline switch is a workaround which isn't necessarily supported which is why the GUI doesn't reflect it perfectly in the dialog. It's easier to just click the "on/off" button within SafeOnline which will then correctly reflect the status.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Ok, let me rephrase, what is the difference between the free(facebook) and paid versions of SafeOnline. Is it just the instance at which the app will alert the user, i.e. after or before the infection respectively?

    LOL!

Could someone else recommend to joe the idea of creating a sticky to deal with these constant questions??

Maybe he'll think it's a good idea if it's not from me :cautious:

You are right, lol. I told him this and he agreed:

I think it will be implemented in a couple of weeks or so.

At the moment we're still looking to see what types of questions are most common as we don't want to spend unnecessary effort compiling the FAQ when many of the 'Q's are not 'FA'd :D

You don't already have a technical document that clearly outlines the difference in the working of free and paid versions of SafeOnline? Seriously? How did you guys plan that release anyway?

Agreed - there's more to this than just a simple question and is the reason why there should be a "separate sticky"

Why just not provide 15-day trial and get it over with :p

Unfortunately it isn't as straightforward as it would seem - SafeOnline comes free via our partner banks but is for-pay when directly through us, but also free from our Facebook promotion. The product itself describes the differences sufficiently from what I've seen: you have full protection over a handful of pre-configured domains and you can add one custom domain. The paid version allows protection over any domain (with some ease-of-use improvements by allowing configuration over all HTTPS/HTTP domains, for example).
