The web content filter is very good but the rest of the suite is pretty poor. There are better alternatives out there IMHO.

Forticlient is a pretty nice free basic suite. it has a very good web protection module a good antivirus ( but the scanning is painfully slow) . If i am not mistaken it has a spam module and i have no idea how good that is. The firewall is fine like most of the firewalls. Well i guess that is not much of a summary but it is all i have read and heard of it. I have used it for sometimes now and i find it fine. It is better than nothing

Even I am trying to find 32 bits downloads. 64 bits downloads are available on download.com. Strange no 32 bits downloads?

I was hoping it's an on-demand scanner, but turns out to be a real-time AV with proxy.

I don't know what's wrong with FortiClient's website, several links are broken, the download links are not correct versions and even though the Lite version is listed on their site, there is no way to download it from their website.

Download links have just been updated on Softpedia for FortiClient Standard 4.2.5.0286 (both 32 & 64-bit).

FortiClient Lite 4.3.0.0408 (64-bit) is available on Download.com

There is NO download links that I can find for FortiClient Lite (32-bit).
No recent changelogs or anything posted in their forums either.

    Thanks.:D

    Re: FortiClient Standard 4.2.5.0286

I run XP. I have Internet Explorer 7 installed. Since I do not use IE, I have never bothered to update it.

When I tried to install Forticlient Lite, it refused to do so on the basis that it wanted me to install IE 8. I wonder WHAT my version of IE has to do with installing an antivirus program? Any ideas why Fortinet is in bed with IE??

In any event my curiosity was aroused so I made an image then downloaded & installed IE 8. The install of IE8 required me also to install Microsoft's Malware Removal program. That program then did a lengthy scan before IE8 began to install, & called home several times while doing so. IE8's install took a long time & required a reboot. After the reboot my computer was very sluggish. Also it took Zsoft uninstaller nearly 5 minutes to record all the changes that IE8 had made to my computer.

I restored the pre-IE8 image & poof! my computer was zippy again.

In all it took over 20 minutes for IE8 to install. When I mentally compare that with the zippy install times for Firefox, Opera, or Chrome, I conclude that IE8 must be outrageously invasive!

Bottom Line: I would never ever recommend anyone to use any Fortinet product whatsoever - for the simple reason of their unholy requirement to interface with IE. :thumbd: :thumbd: :thumbd:

    @ Bellgamin

You many not run IE8 but someone else may have already and may also like Forticlient. I have not tested the new version yet but the standard free version offers decent protection for a reasonable price, free. And if IE8 is the problem you could also use it (i.e standard version).

    Thanks.

I agree with bellgamin. It might not work well with IE 8 but that shouldn't be a steadfast rule. I can't recall many AV's that demand you to install something to work.

I agree with bellgamin too. But may be for proper function it uses some of IE8's function like some softwares require .Net.

    Wait a minute

We have someone who is using an outdated operating system and an outdated browser and yet Forticlient is somehow at fault. How...? Isn't it the duty of a security software to protect you? If the answer is yes then Forticlient should and must install the latest of whatever is needed for Forticlient to its job, protecting you.

    Thanks.

Agree, I'm surprised that FortiClient Lite even supported WinXP. As many newer versions of Microsoft applications and other vendors no longer support WinXP on their latest version releases. And even more vendors will start doing the same.

At least FortiClient gives you options if using an older version of Windows, FortiClient Standard even supports Windows2000.

    Thanks.:D

It's somthing strange...no way to set some settings, I didn't find this. You can only choose mode of scanning and make updating...and nothing more o_O What means "All Recommended Options Enabled"? What are those settings?
I think so simply AV is to heavy for system...look at the screen below (while scanning)

    (process name/% CPU/time CPU/us. of RAM/max. us. of RAM/virtual mem.)
    FCLite.jpg

And BTW...5 day ago help button have redirected to http://docs.fortinet.com/fclnt.html where was guide for FortiClient AntiMalware Free Edition...in guide we can find just FCLite...today we have only FCLite. FortiClient AntiMalware Free Edition does not exist.

AFAIK there are no configuration options.
"All Recommended Options Enabled" could be a leftover from the development of the as-yet unreleased full or un-Lite version. o_O

Can you provide a list of applications that no longer support XP? :cautious:
