So far so good using v5.147 The initial setup is the longest I've encountered, but after that, I think any pc using a Centrino Duo or better will do just fine. .02
Thanks for the input. 5.147 is a new release? Do you use it with an anti-malware like MBAM? Best regards, François
Not sure if it's the latest release; it automatically updates. She does use it with MBAM with the web filter on. I will ask her to turn off the web filter to see if it changes in performance.
Installed it yesterday night. 5.147 is in fact the AV engine version. The product version is 5.0.8.344 if I remember correctly. (I'm under Linux right now)
Runs okay so far. This product is not the fastest, but it's not worse than, say, Agnitum's AV. However, tests seem to indicate it's quite good. I use it with MBAM Pro in real-time by the way.
FortiClient 5.0.9.347 May 30, 2014 -------------- Re OpenSSL: Apr 7~9, 2014 http://techblog.avira.com/2014/04/0...bout-the-openssl-vulnerability-heartbleed/en/ http://techcrunch.com/2014/04/07/ma...sl-could-effect-a-huge-chunk-of-the-internet/ https://www.openssl.org/news/secadv_20140407.txt !!!
I'm going to give it another go. I've been using the Emsisoft Internet Security 9 beta; but I can't seem to download anything while using IE11. Chromium downloads just fine.
I installed 5.05 yesterday and it worked well. Today updated itself to this latest version and fmon.exe is constantly running at a high CPU. It would only rectify itself if I disable realtime protection then re-enable, but then will again run high for an hour before settling down. I thought it may be running a scan so I ran a quick scan manually but the problem persisted. Anyone else experiencing this?
Under a Win 7 installation does Forticlient need / prefer to have Windows Defender turned on as part of the detection, or can it be disabled without reducing detection capabilities?
Mine has settled down now, only a few minutes of high CPU after startup. The web browsing speed is not as slow as Bitdefender for me, that's the reason I am trying Forticlient once again since two years ago when I last tested it. I have disabled the Web Security function because that is really equivalent to parental controls. Anti-phishing, malware sites are now included within the anti-virus function so "web security" does not give me any necessary additional protection.
Yes I would do so normally, but it appears that Forticlient enabled it during install because I never use WD on Win 7. I am wondering if Forticlient needs WD to detect certain categories of spyware rather than using their own signatures for those?
Update: additional problems with Fortclient somehow blocking DNS and stopping all web browsing, but Skype calls keep working. Weird. Uninstalled, too problematic and no time to troubleshoot. Now testing Avira free with Malwarebytes Pro, good so far.
That's their web blocking control panel. It nearly blocks everything by default but you can disable all settings. They really have to rework the whole product, updates should be faster as well.
I'm running on neuronic memory here with long abused axons and dendrites, but I believe I recall correctly that Fortinet filters through the local proxy. When observing with TCPView, Fortinet's connectivity was totally berserk. In my experience, that design is at the forefront of apps with the reputation for system and browsing slowdowns. Avast moved away from it a while back for that reason, among others. Cheers.
From my humble experience...one may recharge their abused axons and dendrites by consuming two 8 ounce glasses of california red wine before bed-time....this will promote a happy synapses between the two....
Tried this one week ago, How ridiculous to install ... after 45 minutes ... i cancelled installation ! now seen on VB100 that install time is 51 minutes !! ow my god
i am trying this on one of my computers and it is running smooth. Installation took something between 3-4 minutes but it is just fine .
