The hard drive of my family's PC (4 users) had filled-up due in large part to music and photo files, so I recently added a 2nd (D) hard drive, moving each user's My Documents folder to the new D-drive. Doing that proved to be straight-forward, but moving the All Users (Shared) folder was not nearly as easy (and that folder was the largest folder on the C-drive)!

Fortunately, I found a free program called Folder Redirector that facilitates moving the following 'special folders' to a different drive/partition:

Desktop, Favorites, My Documents, My Music, My Pictures, Send To, Shared Documents, Shared Music, Shared Pictures, Shared Video, Start Menu, Startup, Temporary Internet Files, Common Startup, Common Desktop.

If anyone wants to move all or some of these 'special folders' (as I did), this program is painless to use and makes all of the required registry changes automatically! :thumb:

Not too shabby, will check it out. Could save some registry hacks.

If I remember right, vista does this automatically. At least when I moved my movies folder to a different hard drive, it changed to a shortcut to there.

If Windows has something like symlinks, that would be neat.

You can do this with TweakUI from Microsoft. You could also use junction points but that's a little messier.

As far as I could tell TweakUI was of no help in moving shared folders.

Thanks Jo Ann for bringing attention to this app. Untill this topic i never really bothered with it but now it's another source of motivation for me to make some special folder adjustments with it. I've had this app all along. LoL
