I'm running SS v3.0.672.0 on my Vista 64bit PC. The firewall is in automatic filtering mode. The problem I have is getting my Logitech SqueezeBox audio streamer to see my audio library on my PC. If I temporarily disable the firewall, it can see 'My Music'. I called Logitech support who suggested:

opening the following ports in my firewall
    - 3483 (TCP) Squeezecenter Control
    - 3483 (UDP) Squeezecenter Discovery
    - 9000 (TCP) Squeezecenter Web

I'd be grateful for any advice on whether or not this is the best soloution. If so, how do I go about opening the ports, or does anyone have a better suggestion for a fix.

    Many thanks.

Hi ! First of all you need to use the firewall in Interactive or Policy-based mode. Automatic will not work for you as it blocks all unsolicated incoming traffic.

Open the user interface (GUI) . Enter the Advanced Setup Tree (F5)

    1. Navigate to Personal Firewall. Choose Interactive Mode

    2. Navigate to Personal Firewall -> IDS and Advanced options
Make sure all services are allowed (a.k.a 5 options)

    3. Open Personal firewall > Rules and zones > Zone and rule setup
Choose "Toggle detailed view of all riles" (if already not set to this)

Start creating new rule (use the button called "New")

    Name : your choice
    Direction : Both
    Action : Allow
    Protocol : TCP & UDP

    Additional action:
    check Log

In Local tab - select the following ports: 3483 and 9000

In Remote choose - do not touch here .

Confirm with OK . Press Apply button . Close the GUI and try again.

Just a quick follow up question. Do I set the firewall back to automatic once I've created the rule, or does it have to be left in interactive mode for the rule to be applied?

No , you cannot use Automatic mode if you want to use this Squeeze Box .
However , there is a workaround if the above suggestion of mine works for you .

In Interactive mode you'll be prompted for every connection (in and out) and you shall decide on yourself if you want to allow or deny it. However , if you want to still use automatic filtering + Logitech , you can use Policy-based mode + a few more rules.

Just try the suggestion , report back if it works and say what mode you want - Interactive or Automatic :thumb:

Very many thanks for your help, HiTech_boy. Your suggested fix has solved my problem. I'm happy to keep ESS in interactive mode and add rules when prompted.

Once again thanks for your help.

Glad I can help . If you ever want to use the firewall in mode similar to Automatic mode but with the Logitech exceptions , just post again and let me know :)
