I'm still using sygate 5.5 and Kerio 2.1.5 (on my other computer). Both work flawlessly, have intuitive rules and use few resources.

However iptables can be much more than just a firewall.
Still looking for some good in Windows. The best idea wolud be such firewall that can import my settings from iptables.
If there's no such program. I have to look for the easiest fw allowing me to controll every port and to specifiy allowed ip.

The only issue you can have with Comodo fw is not wanting Defense+, or application control. But in either case, you can choose not to install D+, and disable app control.
Pure packet filters you can choose (although iptables can do more) are WIPFW and CHX-I (no longer developed). Never got to try WIPFW (only a quick install), but it has a good starting point: FreeBSD's IPFW . Seems to have stalled at 0.2.8 though.

Forgot to say, i don't know how you can translate your iptables rules other than using your head :p

Which ones are most similar to Sygate? I used originally @guard on Windows 2000. Then Sygate on XP and finally Outpost version 4. All three are very similar in terms of user interface, rules wizards and edit rules screens and alerts.

Sadly for me at least Agnitum appear to be mimicking Symantec with how much bloat they've been adding to Outpost and also changing the interface too much. Ironic because Symantec did the same thing with @guard - that became Norton Personal Firewall and then the horrible bloat that is modern Symantec security suite nonsense.

I've a router so Outpost 4 is mainly for application level alerts. I'm just curious if anything more recent exists which is very similar to @guard/Sygate/Outpost 4? I tried Comodo and didn't like it for reasons not worth going into detail :)

Depends. Protection from hackers and stuff: yes, good protection.
Protection for applications that want to connect to the internet or malicious websites: no.

I have been using Look´n´stop on and off for years, but sometimes it just get stuck and blocks things without telling me why so I decided to try Rising Personal Firewall 2008. And I like it. It is very non intrusive and blocks the stuff a normal firewall should. Just set and forget, it makes the rules for known software on the fly.

No router. Dial-Up for the time being and i can break it off at will and pick up another address from the millions in the rotation.

Comodo D+ i found to be satisfactory, but i still rely on good ole Kerio 2.15 which simply refuses to be discounted and still holds it's own exceptionally well.

I used ZoneAlarm Free for years but each version seem to become more bloated and slowed my boot-up. Now use Comodo and am very pleased with its speed and it seems to run light on my laptop.
