Firefox/SeaMonkey Download Statusbar?

Does anyone use this Download Statusbar for Firefox &/or SeaMonkey?

I notice that there is an option in the auto virus-scanning to not scan certain file types, such as jpeg, jpg, png, & gif. My knowledge of computers tends to end at Windows Vista for Dummies so I gather that it is unlikely that these file types are often infected with malware. Does anyone configure this manager to auto-scan downloaded files such as these, or am I being just too paranoid & cautious in wanting to do this?
