I had a nice long discussion about it in another topic haha mostly it's because of extensions like NoScript.

    Hi:

SO does all extensions that work on V7 work on 8? Can anyone check in the add-on search to see the following add-ons work or not please? I hate to upgrade and loose these add-ons. I have lost a lot of add-ons since version 5 which no-longer are compatible but these ones is a must for me. Thanks in advance.

add-ons: add-block plus and plus popup add-ons, better privacy, browser protect, ghostery, netvideo hunter, no script, privacy suite and wot.

I hope these work on version 8?

ABP, NoScript and Ghostery all work on v10 alpha, so yes, they'll work on 8 as well. If you stick to well-used extensions, you're almost always going to be fine. It's the people who use the really specialized, less popular ones that always end up finding something wrong and complaining about it. Themes/Persona's can have trouble with updates as well, but it falls on the extensions' developer to prepare for new releases/updates.

Nice to hear you confirm that everything is working. Do you see any differences with v8 or is it all under the hood? Changelog?

I found the changelog for FX 8:

Add-ons installed by third party programs are now disabled by default
Added a one-time add-on selection dialog to manage previously installed add-ons
Added Twitter to the search bar
Added a preference to load tabs on demand, improving start-up time when windows are restored
Improved tab animations when moving, reordering, or detaching tabs
    Improved performance and memory handling
Added CORS support for cross-domain textures in WebGL
Added support for HTML5 context menus
    Added support for insertAdjacentHTML
Improved CSS hyphen support for many languages
    Improved WebSocket support
    Fixed several stability issues

I found it here - although it still says it's for FF 8 beta. The complete list of changes is here.

Too technical list. :p but to browse Bugzilla is interesting sometimes.

Lol, you'll have to read a bit further back in the thread. It'll actually be tomorrow.

Thanks for the heads up. I relied too much on the thread title. :p

Lol, no problem. It's actually up on Mozilla FTP servers, which, even though it's not the "official build", is close enough if not exactly the same.

Apologies for the long quote but ...
Fact takes on a whole new meaning in the hands of bloggers hoping to grab eyeballs with such stuff.

And just a little below that quote is this gem:

This is totally irrelevant. If the downloaded build doesn't have the "very final" bits, it will get updated as well when the "very final" bits get available.

Thoughtless or cynically trying to grab eyeballs?

So they want some kind of exclusivity over who downloads from an open FTP? This is nonsense.

There's big bucks involved in asking people to
    • wait for the actual release from the official site or
    • wait for the update to be pushed to them or
    • join the beta or Aurora or Nightly channels if they're macho enough
    • or not to overload servers which arent' load balanced!

People just need to chill out, it's less than 24 hours away and there's very little actually new.

    Impossible request.

Sure, I'll pick your stats, leave out IE6 & IE7 (because they unfairly skew the stats against IE), and declare IE9 the clear winner, especially when some strategically applied browser hardening is factored into the equation :D
