and the solution is to make 1 new profile , and let ff3 run with the new profile

    is a good idea?
    is the best choice?

    thanks
    have a great day

Speed sort of depends on what you're running it from. Obviously, performance won't be as good when run from a flash drive as from, say, a 7200RPM external HDD connected to a USB 2 port. As for the rest, you might want to take a look at the following page (it should answer most of your questions):

I think it's a good idea as long as you install each version to a separate folder.

The installer is really a self extracting archive file that "unzips" to where ever you point it. I typically unzip mine to a folder on the desktop and then transfer the resulting folder to my flash drive. But, you can just leave it on the PC if you like and run it from there.

As prius04 mentioned, the hard drive based Portable FF runs just as fast as the regular one. It's just that the user profile is kept with the main portable FF folder (instead of the normal place within Windows.)

Also, the portable version runs extensions just fine. I have not tried different skins though.

BTW, this is the way I test drive the beta FF releases. That way if something goes ugly, I just delete the folder and it's gone...

Yes I run both FF2 and FF3 on my XP machine.

You need to make sure you install them to seperate folders. And create seperate profiles within FF and set one profile to be the default for FF2 and the other for FF3.

The key to preventing this from happening is controlling where the portable version unzips when you first run the installation package. The other key to keeping it separate from any other FF versions you have is to never run them at the same time.

No but be sure you dont start Firefox 3 up with a Firefox 2 profile because of the changes in file formats. Firefox 3 will convert certain files like bookmarks.html to new sqlite format and then you cant go back.

So set up shortcuts to rule out such mistakes. Check http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe -P "FF3" -no-remote starts up my 3.0.11 profile called FF3 while running 3.5 as default browser. Both can run at the same time without risks. Can have as many Firefoxes as you like.
