    Hi,
There is a new F-secure beta:

    http://fsosfi04.socfi.f-sos.net/beta/

F-Secure Personal Express protects your laptop or desktop computer aginst latest Internet threats. F-Secure Personal Express client is widely used by ISPs to protect their customers. It includes real-time virus and spy protection, personal firewall and parental- and spam-controls.

    Has somebody tested this ?

For me, it is not a big deal as long as CPU usage is low

The bloat was not even the main reason why, my PC went from booting in about 45 seconds to about 3-4 minutes, for everything to load, then the application launc took about 30 seconds to a minute. This software was a HUGE impact on system resources, and that screen shot was taken with my computer idle and nothing else running resident. Way to heavy IMO. But it is still a beta, either way F-Secure is not known for being "light".

Installed it on a new harddisk.
This clean install worked without a problem.

I downloaded this product today. Since I have a high-bandwidth broadband connection, downloading 67mb was only a few minutes of bother.

However, I have a few words to say about the product:

    1) My machine became very sluggish during the installation process. The install seemed to take forever. Once it was installed, my machine returned to normal. However, previous to installing F-Secure PEX, Web browsing was fast and snappy. Now it is slow and sluggish. Since my Internet connection is very fast, normally, I can only assume that the slow-down was caused by the installation of F-Secure PEX.
    2) The Automatic update only took a few minutes, but failed to install an update to Security profiles. It errored out.
    3) I started a manual update over an hour ago, and currently only 51% of the update has downloaded. (The program update is 37meg). This is totally unacceptable with a 1.5mbit/sec. connection. Perhaps there is an off-line update file. If so, please let me know by posting a link to it.

This sounds like the experience I had about 8 months ago on a 3Mb connection when I tried F-Secure again. It took over an hour to just download it!! Then installation took so long I finally had to cancel. I tried again later and I could not install it as it took forever. I have not seen anything before or after so sluggish to install and so slow to download.

I've had the same experiences also in the past with F-Secure, even with a 3MB connection also. Not worth the performance hit.I plan to stay with Dr. Web for now.

    For the die hard testers.
It is now trimmed down about 18 Mb to 45 Mb.
