The application control isn't very good with f-secure ?

Let's say if a fake av got through, you can't terminate it through the f-secure app control like you can with kaspersky's app control.

Then you have annoying alerts from deepguard when installing popular software etc.

 

cant say I agree with you. I reinstalled W7 on my laptop, installed FIS 2011 as first application and then started installed everything I normaly have on my computer. Mail, webreader, office, games etc etc. Not a single pop up.

i already answered nearly the same question in the AVC summary thread, but to clarify, theyre both have diff concepts behind them, its not supposed to be like kaspersky and to some thats a good thing. (like me)

 

Testing out F-Secure now. It seems to be pretty decent and the controls are all very simple to use. Its detection rates are very high which is a huge plus.

 

I tried out f-secure and thought it was very nice and very light. However, it is quite expensive. I have elected to try a free alternative that has a sandbox.

I agree about the price. I would prefer that they sold licenses for 1 PC for 1 year for about $30-35 then it would be worth while. Trying out the 30 day free trial, after that will probably swap back to Kaspersky IS.

 

they've still got holiday promos running that put a 3PC license of IS @ $39.99

 

At the moment the single user license for 12 months is about $49.95 AUD. Its abit expensive compared to other vendors. If a holiday promo happens again might get a license.

I live in Norway and I always choose USA as my country. 39.95 dollars and I can registrer with my home adress in Norway.

I always do that when purchasing software. The US prices are normaly a bit lower.

 

Strange, are you using default settings ?

I take your point - but personally there are a few features missing from their application control.

 

yes it culd, nothings ever gunna be perfect for everyones needs, but dont expect it to get features that make it like KIS

 

Yes I am using the default settings. There are not so much setting to fool around with so I let it be default. It is limited how much fun it is to turn the heuristic and antispam on&off.

I am trialling F-Secure IS 2011, and so far so good. I was previously using NOD32. I notice a bit of a slowdown at startup with F-Secure compared to NOD32, although F-Secure seems faster when browsing with Chrome so I can survive with that.

I wonder if anyone else has any advice/opinions on F-Secure v ESET?

How does ESET IS compare with F-Secure IS as I have never tried ESET IS?

The one thing the me that is better about Eset SS, is the firewall. The logs are easier to read and configuration options are better.

After using F-Secure IS 2011 for a while I've noticed some annoying prompts about PrevX attempting to disable some files whenever I visit a website which uses HTTPS. Anyone else get this too and is there a way to stop them?

 

yes, uninstall F-Secure, it is not compatible with PrevX

 

Yes lots of problems, I did trial F-Secure with Prevx/SOL and gave in after a while. I have now removed F-Secure and Prev/SOL and I am now trialling ESET SS.

You will find a thread on here about the compatibility problems with Prev/SOL and F-Secure or vice versa

 

Been running the IS version for a few days now, after picking up a free license, and I am pleasantly surprised.

Installed within 5 minutes and it feels very light in real-time, despite a high number of processes. On-demand scan speed was fast, much faster than other AVs recently installed on the same machine ( KAV, GData, Vipre, Avast ).

This "Behemoth" always had a bad reputation for its effect on performance and this fact always held me back from even trying the program. So potential users, IME, F-Secure is well worth at least trialling.

Now if they can consider a more realistic retail price

Just started trial...same reaction as your self...pleasantly surprised!

 

I was also pleasantly surprised by F-Secure, although start up times were slightly slower than ESET on Windows 7 X64, 3GB.

I am undecided, although given that I have a licence for ESET I will probably stay with them and start to get excited about V5

ESET is about the only service I haven't tried...sounds like I need to do that.
