Im running F-Secure 5.1. Is there any point in installing Tauscan. I know about layered protection etc - but are there any trojans Tauscan can detect that F-Secure cant.

Is there any point in running any other AT along with F-Secure?

Trouble is you can end up having so many apps running in your system tray that your POC grinds to a halt!

Tauscan is no longer needed. The KAV engine which is included in F-Secure is far better in detecting trojans than Tauscan. :)

with f-secure you don't really need an anti -trojan.. and to me it looks like the developers of tauscan have given up on developing the product, the updates have been very rare to say the least, last one is dated 20.8-03.looks like they have discontinued the tauscan support forum

What about something like Trojanhunter - would that be worth running with F-Secure, or is F-Secure that much better at detecting trojans than anything that it is pointless running an AT with it?

Are there any recent and objective tests comparing F-Secure against ATs?

The advantage of AT programs like TrojanHunter or TDS-3 compared to F-Secure is that these scanners provide you some additional tools that could help you to identify "unknown" trojans.

For recent comparisons between AV and AT programs I can only recommand to look at some older tests at http://www.rokop-security.de .

The main problem with these kind of tests are that most of them are crap because the testset includes thousands of old MS DOS trojans. This are mostly the kind of tests where every av program looks far better than a dedicated trojan scanner. Also some tests (like those from av-test.org) include files in their testset that are no real trojans but delivered with the orginal trojan package a scriptkiddie downloads from the web (eg clients, edit servers, etc.) None of these files will end up on a victims machine because they stay with the trojan user.
