Good question for F-Prot support. KAV doesn't allow updates on one of the programs I tried. Not sure if this is still the case.

Guessing, I would think they are trying to protect their software.

    Hi Ronjor.
Im pretty sure that you get updates for all 30 days when trailing the new KAV 5, or so i was told by a KAV reseller where i live. :)

From a site that allows downloads. This is the version I tried. So maybe you can get updates, you just can't clean your computer.

There are several purchase options available including Kaspersky™ Anti-Virus (AVP) for Home Users (a single license for stand-alone computers), Kaspersky™ Anti-Virus (AVP) for Small & Medium Business, Kaspersky™ Anti-Virus (AVP) Corporate Solution.

Limitations: The current version is for demonstration purposes only; i.e., it is only for checking a computer for virus-presence. In order to treat your computer, you must buy a registered product version.

    could jump in.

As F-Prot NOW stands, is its unpacking ability on a par with NOD32, or DrWeb, Or EZ AV, or "none of the above?"

Hi, I'm using the trial version now. It caught a destructive vbscript but it did not seem to offer any remedy to it. I can't select any action or is it automatically quaratined by F-prot? Thank you

This new version 3.14e contains significant changes in response to
the recent outbreak of worms in password-protected ZIP files. The
improved scanning techniques provided in this version allows F-Prot
Antivirus to better detect potentially damaging executables hidden
in ZIP archives and flag them as such.

Hi, I have downloaded the help file.
Under "RTP found an infected file" section, it shows only the window I got as well. No other actions included? So is the infected files quaratined automatically or wat? Thanks

Directly from the F-Prot site. Link included.

My computer is infected with a virus.
    What should I do?

If your computer is infected with a virus you should:

    1. Make sure you have the latest version of F-Prot Antivirus.
    2. Update your virus signature files.
    3. Scan your computer with the OnDemand Scanner.

Before you scan make sure that the OnDemand Scanner is set to "Disinfect". For further information on how to set the OnDemand Scanner to "Disinfect", please click here.

Use the OnDemand Scanner to disinfect your computer.

    from help file:

The NT/2000/XP version of RealTime Protector does not yet have a settings interface. Instead, it has standard settings which are enough to do the basic job of stopping all infected and suspicious file from being opened on your system. There are no images to explain in this version. You can right-click the RealTime Protector icon in your system tray to select enable/disable and Exit.
RealTime Protector for Windows NT/2000/XP is set to scan by content and extension. This means that RealTime Protector will scan all files of such type that it could possibly contain malicious code which can be executed by opening the file.

    The following extensions are scanned:
EXE, COM, SYS, VXD, DLL, DRV, SCR, 386, XL?, DOC, DOT, OV?, CPL, FON, TSK, ACM,
ACV, TLB, TSP, OCX, VBX, OBJ, SHS, CLA, VOM, VXE, MDB, TD0, BAT, BTM, INI, INF,

I don't feel comfortable with the RTP interface. There is no action for me to choose upon finding an infected file. I feel insecured knowing that the infected files are somewhere there lurking in my PC

Does someone knows if the new version of F-Prot will have incremental updates?

What is the regularity of F-Prot update?

F-Prot updates twice a day at the present time. Some days, there are no updates. You can schedule the program to check however many times a day you want to.

They do as others do in times of outbreaks. More updates.

I don't know about the new version. I am looking foward to it.

Looks like about 1800kb in the directory. I've never paid attention to update size. I'll have to check the size again next update.
