No. It's gone and doesn't come back.

I think I've figured out the answer. In Win7 I installed Skype 5.0.0.156 but in Options I did not select

    install Skype Extension Manager
    install plugin for Firefox
    install plugin for IE

    The file does not appear.

I then installed Skype over the top but did select those 3 options. The file appeared immediately. So, depending on your Options you may or may not get the file. In previous installs I had been selecting the 3 options.

Oh, sorry I didn't explain in full detail. If you delete it, then relaunch Skype and actually LOG IN, does it re-appear?
And hmm, I'll ask my friends about that and whether they have them installed.

No. It's gone. I think I uninstalled the Skype extensions about a year ago but that doesn't remove the file.

I suspect if you uninstall the Skype extensions, uninstall both plugins and delete the file, it won't come back.

You could also install Skype over the top but don't select any options. That should remove them.

This does work. After deleting the file it does not return.

Sorry, had a lot do to last night. As for your fix, it absolutely worked! You'd think Skype should setup the .dat file to be stowed in the Skype ProgramData folder, or name it to something that isn't known as a malicious file. How strange... Well I truly thank you with the utmost amount of respect. You truly are the superman of the Internet.

Final update: Skype contacted me back, said it was a Skype file. I requested them include the .dat file in the Skype programdata folder. Thank you for all your help Brian.

    DjK3743,

Thanks for the feedback and the "pat on the back". It was an interesting issue.

Heck, I had that file and I don't found how do I get it... but I wonder... why do I get Korean characters when I open that file with notepad?
and If I google: translate 灮⌳ꀉ퍶柍o_O싸뚶猔皶龍

and who the heck is: yaej yāngo_Ossattup zòngsalyong ?

Or are the "Exiled Chinese Dissidents" invading our computers using skype? heck...

(just making confusing messages, but the reality is I don't freaking know how that file got into my computer)

    :)

He stated through his trials that it is from the Skype Extras/Plugins from the installer.
