Is it possible to exclude a whole partition from realtime scanning of Virus Guard?

Yes, you should be able to configure that in Virus Guard > Scan . AV exclusions list > Define List link.

Simply add the volume as you would any other folder.

it can't add the root of a partition.

so if I add all folders in all partition, is it the same as disabled virus guard in terms of disk i/o performance?

In theory, yes. But why would you go that route rather than simply deactivating the VG if required?

I plan to use virus guard to scan usb devices only in realtime.
because my harddisks is too old to handle almost any antivirus' realtime scanning

The real time monitor in the VG does this (scan usb drives) automatically when connected to the machine as it does with all newly introduced content. Have you tried letting the VG do this and check the results or are you simply wanting to scan on-demand where USBs are concerned?

actually, I want VG to scan USB or any newly introduced content realtime in an "on-execution" method only and exclude realtime scanning on virtualized partition (including my fixed drives)
