    Hi All,
Is Ewido 4 a Anti-spyware program or a Anti-malware program,I was led to believe they are different programs.

It's anti malware... And anti-malware focuses on a wider variety of things while antispyware usually focuses on spyware... like adaware who has a small detection database compared to ewido or a squared, but adaware is mainly a antispyware.

In that case you can call NOD32 and most other AV's also Anti-Malware instead of Anti-Virus.
NOD32 detects viruses and spywares and other threats.
Nowadays all these advanced scanners detect and remove as much as possible, whatever it is. Names or not that important anymore and certainly not for the average user.

Ewido is now marketed as AS rather than AM because it was brought by Grisoft. I assume Grisoft will bundle their FW and AV with Ewido and call it the complete security solution.

If Ewido is marketed as AM, people will be reticent to invest in a suite that seems to lack a fundamental part of modern computer security arsenal - the AS.

Ewido 3 was fairly good at picking up badware that fell in the gap between AV and AS - i.e. the AM (trojans, dialers etc). The question is how good is Ewido as a AS? Good enough to ditch Spybot, Adaware or Defender?

As I already said here: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?goto=lastpost&t=135939

Among other things, too many people still thought that ewido anti-malware is an antivirus software which it is not. So we decided to solve the disaccord and rename it once more to ewido anti-spyware.
Which does not change anything on the kind of threats we're searching/protecting for.

I don't understand why people thought Ewido was an antivirus. It was always clearly an anti-tojan/anti-malware program to me. Using "AntiMalware" seemed to clearly say what it is and kept it in the same category as A-Squared. I always did find it interesting, however, that Ewido scanner is used at VirusTotal. Will it still be used there now that it has been renamed "antispyware"?

I don't know if VirusTotal will keep it. But, why should they remove it? It is the same scanner and will scans for the same threats, and will be updated for the same threats.

It is a name. Not more.

Living in the US, I have learned one thing for sure: Word and Names sometimes are more real than Reality, at least for some folks. I just hope the name change doesn't affect the popularity of Ewido among users who might confuse it with "just another anti-spyware program."

    Hi Oldrebel,
I agree with you 101%, I think people will say it is just another Anti-spyware program.
