I'm not sure this is a direct malware problem - but maybe an indirect one if at all since it engages in misinformation wherein malware links could hide to ensnare innocent users.

I guess it's a logical step from supporting Communist party speeches and guidelines, towards promoting/bashing commercial based stuff given the direction of current day China politics.

This is absolutely no different than what has gone on for years elsewhere in the world. The U.S, the U.K, all of these connected countries engage in this practice. Shady, you bet, "insidious", not likely. Caveat Emptor and all that. How come all this stuff only gets attention when the Chinese do it?
