ESS antivirus/antispyware corrupts downloads

Starting with 4.0.xxx version and now with 4.2.40.0 ESS antivirus/antispyware protection corrupts my web downloads of files, both archives and .exe files. Using both Firefox 3.6.3 and latest Google Chrome, all downloads ends up "incomplete" in that way that the files never gets fully downloaded.

Temporarily disabling the antivirus/antispyware protection by right clicking ESS icon in task bar and choose "Disable Antivirus and antispyware protection" solves the problem.

What can be done about this?

Im on Windows 7 x64, activated and fully updated, ESS 4.2.40.0

Really good answer, thanks a lot. Started with disabling Firefox internal scanning (which should solve problems with downloading in that browser) and it seems to work fine. And as a positive side effect, the download was a lot faster

Then Google Chrome, download corrupt. Tried the trick from Eset KB http://kb.eset.com/esetkb/index?page=content&id=SOLN2424 and now the downloads seems to be non corrupt in Chrome also.

Will check this out carefully, but as of now it seems to be fixed. Thank you!
